Humor binds us together!

Good morning. I’m still Jeff Simon, here to give you a few sales and marketing tips.

(Jeff drops long document Groucho style, as he did in – A Night at the Opera)

And now, your NYC Educational Moment…….

A square plus B square = C square.

Ooops, wrong lecture.

(Tears off top 12″ of the paper)

Ah…………..A fish and a Priest walk into a NYC meeting.

“Hi” says the fish. ………………………………….

“I heard you are also………… a Sole Practitioner”

So, happy April……….Fools. I mean, happy April Fools.

In any event,………………

Why do most keynote speakers start with a joke?

Humor binds us together.

Sharing a Laugh. It gives us something in common and breaks the ice.

Why do so many ads on TV involve humor? It is the same as dogs and babies in commercials, you warm up the audience. You make a friend, you’ve shared a laugh.

The classical sales man is parodied as running off jokes to establish a commonality with the consumer.

This is also a valuable tool in a networking event.

Humor also has other benefits.

You’ve heard that laughter is the best medicine, but did you know that even faking a good mood has positive benefits. It brightens your mood and the people you are interacting with.

It increases endorphins and dopamine production;

Increases relaxation, responsiveness and helps in problem solving.

It reduces pain, reduces stress and increases creativity as well as your self esteem, optimism and enjoyment.

In social settings it increases bonding, as I said, reinforces group identity, promoting friendships and also, one’s attractiveness.

So, lighten up your public and sales face, be warm, humorous and positive, and try a joke.

And, tell ’em Groucho sent you.
