Make More Money Targeting Job Titles or Professions

NYC Elevate is a networking community organized to help our members make more money through structured collaboration and referrals.

Last week, we discussed targeting life events and building power teams around those life events.

Those life events were things like…

  • Having a baby
  • Getting married
  • Getting a divorce
  • Getting a new job
  • Getting a bonus at work
  • Retiring from work

What other life events did you think of?

And I heard from a few of you that you deal with businesses and that life events weren’t relevant to you.

My advice on that one is that you can target business events like …

  • Starting a business
  • Downsizing a business
  • A business that’s hiring people
  • A business that’s making investments
  • A business that’s moving

What other business events can you think of?

Next, we should also build power teams around job titles or professions.

For example, if anyone on this meeting wants to meet Commercial Real Estate attorneys, I suggest you network with Jeffrey Anderson since that’s been his ask for a record 500 weeks in a row, and I imagine that he knows quite a few of them now.

Another example is me.

Even though I’m the best web developer in the universe, Anatoliy Chistov, our SEO pro, Eric Lituchy our digital advertising pro, and Helen Todd, our social media pro, would not be very successful if I were the only web developer that they knew.

Since they get a lot of referrals from web developers, it benefits them to know a bunch of them, and in fact, any time I get the chance, I will introduce them to the other web developers I know.

Now a question that everyone asks is if they know other web developers aren’t you afraid that they will refer them instead of you?

The answer is no.

The whole purpose of power teams formed around job titles is to get business from these people, not give business to these people.

So your action item for this week is to form one power team around a life event; one power team around a business event; and one power team around a job title or profession.

Then do this again month by month, creating new power teams around these items and I guarantee that you will be making a lot more money!
