BNI Elevate is a networking community organized to help our members make more money through structured collaboration and referrals.
And this week’s make more money moment is about having the proper long term perspective.
If you have been following me on Facebook, then you know that I recently took a cross country train trip to San Francisco for the fifth time.
And invariably every time I take this trip I’m inundated with comments about how there are quicker ways to get there.
And that made me think that many people might be confused between a journey and getting to a destination, and how that might relate to us here at Elevate.
When I joined Elevate almost 10 years ago, I came to this room with zero clients and zero revenue as I had just started my business.
And I really needed to make money quickly as the bills were piling up.
And if you told me that my destination was a million dollars per year in referred business but that destination was all the way across the country, I would have asked where can I book my flight and how soon can I go.
But the trouble is that destination is only served by taking a long train ride.
By meeting people along the way and building long term relationships with them.
In short, there are no shortcuts to being successful here at Elevate.
And if you get off the train too soon then you’ll never get to that destination of a million dollars.
The key idea here is to know you’re on the right train, and that it’s going in the right direction.
And we know that we’re on the right train going in the right direction because our collective odometer logs $10M per year.
So the sooner you understand that our collective journey is the destination, the more you’ll enjoy the trip, and at that point I guarantee that you’ll make more money.
